VIX Futures
Earlier Start Provides Opportunity to React to Pre-Market News
  • As volatility becomes a recognized asset class and as CBOE Volatility Index® (VIX®) futures volume and open interest continue to set new records, demand for longer trading hours has also mounted from investors in the U.S. and abroad.
  • On December 10*, CBOE Futures Exchange (CFE) plans to extend VIX futures' opening time to 7:20 a.m. from 8:30 a.m. (Chicago time) -- allowing market participants to establish or offset positions impacted by news and events occurring before the general market open.
  • In the video clip below, Jay Caauwe, Director of Business Development for CBOE, discusses what prompted the change and what it means for investors.
  • Also view the video recorded earlier this month with Ben Londergan, CEO of Group One Trading, who describes what he thinks may be driving growth in VIX futures.
